Heart disease is caused by various different factors and although you cannot choose your genes you can choose the life style. By following healthy lifestyle and taking any medication that helps, it is still possible to lower your risk even if your genes predispose you to heart disease. In fact, some rare forms of heart disease are hereditary, such as IHSS and some forms of familial cardiomyopathys. Coronary disease is considered as multifactorial. If you have a family history you should be screened carefully.
