The old analog technology does not allow for individual frequency adjustments. The digital sound processor chip, found in digital hearing aids, can give the difference between the speech spectrum and noise spectrum. This means that when we are wearing a digital hearing aid the voice of the person speaking to you will be amplified and the noise in that area will not be amplified. This combined with directional microphones gives greater ability to hear speech in social settings.
