Movie Popcorn Calories

Did you go for a movie recently? What did you eat while the movie was going on? Did you plan to pick up a packet of popcorn? Ever thought how many calories are there in the popcorn? If you plan to eat it again, then make sure that you know how much calories are there!! This is what this article tells you about!!

Popcorn or popping corn is basically a type of maize which puffs up when it is heated in oil or by dry heat. Popcorn can be a great snack for dieters. But not all popcorn is good for health.

Popcorn is a nutritious snack choice, containing more fiber than snacks made with refined flour. In a standard three-cup serving i.e. the size of a small mixing bowl, air-popped popcorn contains just 93 calories and less than 1.5 grams of fat.

Movie popcorn is usually popped in highly saturated coconut oil. The seven cups in buttered small popcorn, for example, have 600 calories. The twenty cups in buttered large popcorn has 1,600 calories. Some theaters pop in partially hydrogenated vegetable oil, which is better for your heart, and few use non-hydrogenated oil, which is best though none are good for the waistline.

Many people trying to eat healthy foods switch to popcorn for snack time. But reports suggest that movie popcorn contains tremendous amount of calories. This is where the confusion begins, is popcorn a heath food?

The confusion can be sorted out by the taking care of which type of popcorn we eat. Air popped corn is a nutritious choice which has hardly any calories and fat. Microwave oven popcorn or the butter types have 40 to 60 calories. But the movie popcorn is cooked in oil or generally has fats poured over them like sugar coating or cheese. This makes it a high fat choice.

On the ending note what really matters is the size of the serving we eat!!
