Physical characteristics of children with autism
What is autism?
The dictionary defines autism as a psychiatric disorder that occurs in childhood and retards the neurological development of the child. It is best diagnosed by the age of three. It is characterized by aggressive responses to general and normal stimuli like touches and cuddling. The speech becomes faulty, begins to lack expression, clarity and intonation. The disease is all about intellectual impairment of the infant.
How is it caused?
The cause of the disease is unknown. Several rounds of research have been conducted on the disease and its causes but the latter still remains undiscovered and unidentified. The disease can be inherited; it can be due to genetic or environmental reasons or also due to infections
Characteristics
Autism disorder affects the development of social interactions and communicational skills. These dysfunctions can be seen in related body movements which harm social interactions it is exhibited in difficulty in interacting with other individuals in leisure or play activities and verbal or non-verbal communication. Individuals with autism also have severe sensitivities in the five senses and impairments in imaginative play. Autism is a characteristic of extreme aloneness, unresponsiveness to other people, in ability to understand and use language in a normal way and they tend towards the preservation of resemblance.
They face problems while expressing themselves and generally cry, laugh or show distress when not competent to express themselves. The speech patterns are improper and lack intonation and involve repetition and expression. The mental processes of the child become slow and face difficulty in learning and understanding things.
The symptoms may become severer as the child enters teenage years and may go out of control if not checked on time. But there are also chances that the severity of the disease reduces as the autistic person enters adulthood.
Conclusion
Autism treatment may vary from child to child depending upon the severity of the disease suffered by the child. They need to be given proper behavioral therapy to improve their language skills. They need special treatment as they have a tendency to go aggressive and find problems in understanding.
